Work performed while at Cellular Technical Services
Remember the nineties? Cell phones were the size and weight of a brick, analog, and totally unsecure!
Unscrupulous folks could clone someone else's phone number on their own phone, in a kind of cell phone
identity theft, and leave the unfortunate subscriber with a huge bill. At Cellular Technical Services
I worked on a pattern recognition-based cell phone fingerprinting system that could identify
such cloning fraud and disallow calls from illegal phones. Nowadays digital cellular communication
protocols come with built-in encryption that makes this type of fraud virtually impossible.
